When night-outs start in the early hours and seemingly have no end, morning-after refueling becomes a culinary landmark of its own. Berlin’s tireless clubbing scene has subsequently carved out demand for a brunch industry of equal reputation; it’s the done thing.

Still, not all eatery tables are requisitioned by delicate patrons seeking to soak up the drinks of the night before. There is room and food for all.

Owing to the city’s diversity, breakfast and brunch come in many formats and flavors – from regional spreads and international classics to some more boozy affairs for those not wanting the party to stop.

Test your hangover – or not – against some of our best brunch picks.

Father Carpenter 🔗

Father Carpenter - Breakfast 3

If Father Carpenter ever was a little-known oasis, it no longer is. The eatery started its Berlin tenure as a reclusive courtyard cafe but has since become a mainstay for creative brunch dishes and specialty coffee. Once seated, enjoy a menu of delicate light bites, loaded toasts, and hearty sandwiches – you could order with your eyes closed and still hit the mark. Tables are a hot commodity, especially when the sun is shining.

Rocket + Basil 🔗

The brainchild of two German-born sisters who grew up in Australia with an Iranian mother, Rocket + Basil is another of Berlin’s diverse culinary offerings. The food reflects the pair’s cultural heritage and unites flavor palates for brunch dishes with added flair. The ethos here is fresh and fragrant; expect colorful plates emphasizing seasonal ingredients. The daily staples deserve a taste too – the jujeh kabab with grilled chicken served alongside tahdig is a winner.

Mugrabi 🔗

Mugrabi Food

Proximate to the green pastures of Görlitzer Park, Mugrabi is a well-visited spot come brunch hours among those enjoying an urban jaunt. Whether a sobering or social stroll, patrons take to the alfresco terrace to indulge in Levant flavors and a caffeine bump. They keep the menu concise and the quality high; the hummus is some of Berlin’s best, and the shakshuka is not far behind – save yourself from decision paralysis and pair the two with an order of the hamshuka. Whatever’s on your plate, bask in the sun and recharge.

Silo Coffee

While Rocket + Basil brings creative Persian flavors to the world of Aussie-style brunch, Silo Coffee sticks to a more conventional ensemble of hearty-yet-healthy eats. Stop by for the usual helpings of avocado toast, poached eggs, breakfast bowls, and French toast. The cafe’s collaboration with Fjord, a local bean roastery, also puts specialty coffee on the menu. Detox, reenergize, refuel; all options are on the table.

Café Anna Blume 🔗

Another of the well-known names in Berlin’s brunch scene, Café Anna Blume tables a more refined dining experience headlined by its Frühstücksetagere – a tiered silver platter bearing tapas-style offerings of sweet-meets-savory. Those not tempted by the two-person spreads can delve deeper into the menu to find solo plates of eggs, fresh pastries, cereals, and sandwiches. Brunch mains stomached; linger a little longer to indulge in the cake counter.

44 Brekkie 🔗

44 Brekkie - Sandwich

44 Brekkie conforms to its stylish Rykestraße locale with a minimalist aesthetic. Egg drop sandwiches are the business here – think thick brioche slices hugging fluffy eggs with various flavorful accouterments. The avocado and bacon offering always proves popular, as does the salmon. Walk-ins and cash only; plan accordingly.

Fine Bagels 🔗

The name might be a bit of an undersell. Fine Bagels has carved out a respected reputation for serving hand-rolled and fresh-baked New York-style bagels since opening its doors in 2013. Swing through for a grab-and-go bite or perch on a table with a book in hand – the cafe doubles as a bookstore and boasts a compelling collection of English-language reads. There are worse places to spend an afternoon.

Annelies 🔗

Annelies Interior

Another option for those finding themselves in the vicinity of Görlitzer Park when the mid-morning hunger pangs hit. Coffee might be the in-house passion – we’ll trust their word given the success of sibling venture Distrikt Coffee – but Annelies’ brunch eats can still hang with the best of them. Enjoyers of scrambled on sourdough will come across a pairing of fennel kimchi – just one example of the culinary inflections that Annelies offers with its food. The rest of the menu features similarly refined creations. If you’re planning an Annelies visit, just know others will have done the same; arrive early to secure a table.
